Meet Steve Kudron, My Mountain Guy aka newly elected town trustee and head fudge maker at Quacker Gift Shop. Steve (MMG) has many hobbies and interests but one of his favorites is creative cooking. For all of this to make sense I should provide a brief primer as to the cooking and dining preferences of my beloved husband. So here it goes:
1.If 7 plus ingredient are required and savory is an outcome, the kitchen comes alive.
2. If smokin’ is the method of cooking…oh my, look out!
3. And heat (like fiery hot), just ask him about his newest creation Ghost In The Darkness Fudge (Yes, it’s dark chocolate ghost chili fudge topped with coconut for a hint of sweetness).

Ah, St Patrick’s Day. Green beer, shamrock luck and a pinch or two because everyone’s Irish for a day.  With my new Power Pressure Cooker XL, I wanted to make a quick, authentic St Patty’s day Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner. I searched high and low for a quick, easy pressure cooked St Patty’s Day dinner.  There was a lot of disagreement, so I took the best ideas and came up with a perfectly cooked meal.  Our Power Pressure Cooker XL did the job easy peasy. Tender Corned Beef, Tasty Beer Braised Cabbage, tender Red Potatoes and Carrots round it all out. We added a pint of Guinness for the perfect St. Patrick’s Day feast!

It’s time to Ride!

Snowmobiling is what I like to say the locals share with the world here in Grand Lake.  As our summer and fall visitors depart from this slice of Heaven at the west 20151105_093242entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, the 500 or so year ’round residents begin to watch the skies and impatiently await the first snow. For a month, workers have been setting winter signs, marking trails and preparing for Grand Lake’s second season – Snowmobile Season. Now, powerful snow machines aren’t the only thing to do – there’s Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and more to be had in Grand Lake in the winter, but for today – we ride.

A Rocky Mountain Evening

Life is so interesting every day.  As we are completing our move to Grand Lake and gettinmooseg ready for the summer season, things are so hectic it’s easy to forget some of the reasons why we have decided to leave the big city for high mountain living.  Well, today we have been reminded.  My mom is in Colorado to celebrate the graduation of my nephew Scott from Western State in Gunnison, CO.

Day 12- K is for Kites

kitesWithout a doubt spring is in the air, everything is in full bloom and the temperatures will be in the 70’s.  Lots of outside fun today, but tomorrow we could get a foot of snow. what can I say, that’s spring time in Colorado. It’s days like today that I want to get outside, play in the park and fly a kite. Growing up in Oklahoma we had fun with kites, the wind seemed to always blow. My husband loves to fly kites, he has trick kites that he keeps in the air for hours, Grand Lake is the perfect place for this relaxing pass time.
